    Until two years ago, Sarah Lund was Detective Chief Inspector in the Homicide Department at Copenhagen Police Headquarters. But following disciplinary action, she was stripped of her police role and demoted to a low-key job outside of the capital. Today she lives on Falster island, where she is a Passport Control employee. She is divorced and has a 17 year old son, Mark, who now lives in Copenhagen with his father.

    Ulrik Strange is Chief Inspector in the Homicide Department at Copenhagen Police Headquarters. He has been working there for a year. He was recently divorced and has two children.

    Thomas Buch has been a member of parliament for 2½ years and was recently appointed as Minister of Justice, despite his young age and relative lack of experience. Buch is married and has two daughters.

  • Jens Peter Raben (Ken Vedsegaard)

    Jens Peter Raben (Ken Vedsegaard)

    Jens Peter Raben used to be a Staff Sergeant in the Danish Armed Forces and was posted to several dangerous missions over the years, including Iraq and Afghanistan. For the past two years, he has been held in a psychiatric detention centre in Denmark, following a breakdown which resulted in violent behaviour. Raben is married to Louise and the two have a young son, Jonas.

    Louise Raben (Stine Prætorius)

    Louise Raben is a qualified nurse working at Ryvangen military barracks. She is the daughter of Colonel Jarnvig and married to Jens Peter Raben, with whom she has a son, Jonas. While waiting for Jens to be released from detention, Louise and Jonas live with Louise’s father, Colonel Jarnvig.

    Lennart Brix is Chief Homicide Inspector in the Homicide Department at Copenhagen Police Headquarters. Brix was in charge when Sarah Lund was taken off her job as Detective Chief Inspector two years ago, following a series of controversies during the investigation into the death of teenager Nanna Birk Larsen.

    Carsten Plough is Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice, a job he has held for a generation. Plough has been married for 36 years.

    Karina Munk Jørgensen is a law graduate and Personal Secretary of the Minister of Justice. She works alongside the Permanent Secretary, Carsten Plough.

    Torsten Jarnvig is a Danish Armed Forces Colonel and head of Ryvangens Military Barracks. Jarnvig is a widower, father of Louise, father in law of Jens Peter Raben and grandfather of Jonas.
