On the Road in Egypt. Part One - The Army

Hardtalk is on the road in Egypt as this country prepares for its first post-revolution elections. The influence of the military in Egypt has led to increased concern for the hopes of an open democratic government running the country.

In Tahrir square the revolution lives on but the sense of triumph has been overtaken by frustration. This weekend's violence, the worst in months, sees the security forces attack the protestors they protected during the revolution.

Many Egyptians are beginning to wonder whether the path to a free and democratic Egypt has been blocked by the men in uniform.

In the first of this three part series Stephen Sackur looks at the political state of Egypt on the eve of the election.
