Tanya is lost in thought as she prepares for her first round of treatment. Lauren agrees to accompany her mum to the hospital and does her best to raise her spirits. After Tanya’s radiotherapy, Lauren and Tanya reminisce about an old holiday before being interrupted by a nurse - Tanya’s ready for chemo. Tanya withdraws as she meets other cancer patients and flees. Seeking refuge, Tanya meets Siobhan, who acts blasé about cancer. Lauren urges her mum to go through with the treatment but Tanya is worried about side effects. Lauren reminds her that the biggest side effect is that it could make her better - her family need her. Changing her mind, Tanya starts her treatment with Lauren at her side. Tanya’s surprised when Siobhan takes off her wig, revealing she’s having treatment too. Back at home, roles are reversed as Lauren cooks for Tanya as she rests on the sofa.
The Masoods and Denise show their concern for Zainab. Masood worries over her mental state, still caring for his estranged wife. Following arguments with Roxy and Denise, Zainab admits to Yusef that she is worried she has lost all respect in the community and needs his help. After a string of phone calls from Amira, Yusef assures Zainab he won’t tell anyone she has made contact but secretly arranges a meeting with her. At the park, Amira reveals to Yusef why she wants to get in touch - Syed has a daughter.
Ben is dismissive of Christian when he asks how things went with Phil. Back at the Mitchells Shirley arrives home and doesn’t waste time telling Ben that she wouldn’t change a thing about him.
Janine clashes with Roxy when she flexes her muscles as a landlady. Michael is impressed with Janine’s behaviour.
