POEM :: The Turning Of The Wheel

From summer haze we move to wake

Soft avenues of falling leaves

In sight of winters cleansing break

The ancient pattern truly weaves

The massing of the migrant fowl

White specter found in ghostly flight

Grey twighlight fades the hunting owl

The tapestry of blackest night

In autumn tones again we feel

The Ewe and holly bright Ascend

A subtle turning of the wheel

The eqinox is come again

POEM :: Notes to self on Saturday Live

Start by making a good impression
Don’t get paranoid, thinks its bound to go wrong
From the moment you walk into broadcasting house
Its essential you start as you mean to go on

Don’t mention the thought of another recession
Be charming and chatty but not in the way
Be friendly not glib McCarthy comes in
Pick up on what Richard is trying to say

Know when to talk
Know when to stop
Try not to drift
Or be caught on the hop

Be natural and buzzy a boon to the show
And what ever you do
Don’t get seduced
Or caught in the thrall of
(Arguably the greatest pop rock combo
In the history of British music)
By the band they know as the mighty Staus Quo

Try to talk about the hurricane
Talk about the priest and the congregation
And that hauntingly lovely moment when the little boy says:
“Momie, could that be the we baby I heard in the field of POTATOES

Not the durability and the animal magnetism of the hard gigging, hard rocking four-piece outfit that is the mighty Status Quo

Explore the link between Chris Hargreaves’s passion for football and sir William’s passionate views on education
About being firm yet fair-dealing about boundaries, teaching kids about respect dedication and consistency
And all the places that a good solid education can allow you to go

Don’t get caught up in: ponytails, denim and the chugging rocking rhythms of the three piece, three chord, powerhouse that is the mighty Quo

Don’t start working Quo lyrics in to the poem
Like: I like it, I like it, I like it, I li, li, like it, li, li, li, NO, NO, NO!

Don’t roll over and lay down
Before the mighty rock juggernaut that is THE QUO!

Don’t start Quoting quo statistics like:
106 appearances on top of the pops
120 million units sold
7 ½ years in the singles charts
32 hit albums

Try and be intelligent and brilliantly creative, yet look like you’re trying to not let it show

Quote Confucius, Mao, Shakespeare, and Sarah Palin, Mr. whippy, anything that sounds vaguely Radio 4

Do whatever you want!
Whatever you like
Whatever you say, you pay ya money you take ya choice

But!
Don’t blow the flow
Don’t wreck the show
Don’t upset the quid pro Quo

By losing the plot and getting obsessive
And out of control
About the mighty status Quo
