2010

In 2010 BBC Radio 3 launched the World Routes Academy - a new project which aims to support and inspire young UK based world-music artists by bringing them together with an internationally renowed mentor belonging to the same tradition.
The first beneficiary was the outstanding London-based oud player of Iraqi descent, Khyam Allami. Khyam's mentor was the celebrated Iraqi guitarist, singer and composer Ilham al Madfai, who lives in Jordan and who Khyam worked with in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan across his year on the Academy.
