Cook the Perfect…Summer Pudding

Summer Pudding is a popular dessert, however, authentic recipes are rare. Once a favourite of health spas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (under the term “hydropathic pudding”), the Summer Pudding remains a relatively simple and refreshing way to make the most of seasonal fruits. As part of Woman’s Hour’s ongoing series, Jenni is joined by Cordon Bleu chef and 'kitchen coach' Justine Kanter who will demonstrate how to ‘Cook the Perfect’ Summer Pudding.

Christine Rice

Mezzo-soprano Christine Rice has performed on opera stages and concert platforms around the world. But, this Sunday she faces a new challenge. She’s singing in Havergal Brian’s record breaking Symphony No. 1, ‘the Gothic’, which is being performed in the opening weekend of the BBC Proms. It’s also known as the ‘Symphony of a 1000’ reflecting the vast numbers required to perform in it and has earned a place in the Guinness book of Records under ‘Longest Symphony’.
Christine Rice joins Jenni to talk about preparations for the performance and how she combines being a mother to four young children with her busy career as a singer.

Christine Rice is performing in Havergal Brian’s Symphony No. 1 in D minor, ‘The Gothic’ on Sunday 17th July at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms.

Women in Business: Patenting

As part of our ongoing series on Women in Business, we’ll be finding out all about patents, crucial if you’ve got a product you don’t want everyone else to copy. Mandy Haberman invented the Anywayup Cup twenty years ago. It meant small children no longer got more drink down their fronts or on the floor than into their mouths. But she ran into difficulties when other cups arrived on the market. She’ll be talking about the importance of a good patent with Steve van Dulken, leading information expert at the British Library and Mandy Haberman, inventor of the Anywayup Cup

Are teenage boys more emotional than girls?

The Head Master of Eton College, Tony Little has said that teenage boys, contrary to stereotypes, are more emotional than girls, and are too often let down by schools that brand their impulsive reactions as problematic. So, are teenage boys really more emotional than girls? To discuss boys and their emotions, Jenni is joined by Dr. Sebastian Kraemer, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Tavistock Clinic and Whittington Hospital, London; and Sue Atkins, former deputy head teacher, parenting coach, broadcaster and author.
