  • Embroidered Graffiti

  • Egyptian women

Egyptian women were very much part of the protests in Tahrir Square earlier this year as they nursed the wounded, provided food and helped to plan the revolution. But they are becoming increasingly concerned about being side-lined as the new Egypt takes shape especially as there are fewer women in government than under former leader Hosni Mubarak [who had proposed a quota system to get more women into the Egyptian parliament]. As the Muslim Brotherhood enjoys greater freedom in a country where 74% of girls between the ages of 8 and 12 have female genital mutilation, has anything changed for Egyptian women and how optimistic are they about their future? Jenni is joined by the Deputy Leader of the Labour party and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, Harriet Harman, and by rights activist Dalia Ziada who demonstrated in Tahrir Square.

  • Jazz and Bev Burkitt

    Jazz and Bev Burkitt

A new series called Small Teen Bigger World [a follow on from last year’s hit documentary Small Teen Big World] starts next Monday, 11th July on BBC3 at 9pm. It features 17 years old Jazz and her mother Bev - who both have an undiagnosed form of restricted growth – and it follows Jazz as she embarks on a life-changing journey when she leaves Colwyn Bay to study animal welfare. Jazz has been her mother’s carer since the age of 13. In the first film, she tracked down the father she has never met. In this follow on series, she actually meets her father for the first time and discovers why her mother chose to cut him out of their lives before her daughter’s first Birthday. Jazz and Bev will be in the Woman’s Hour studio in Manchester with Jenni Murray.

  • Cook The Perfect..... Fish Soup

As part of our continuing How to Cook the Perfect… cookery series Italian chef Giorgio Alessio shares his secrets for a perfect fish soup, the 'Cucina Povera' of the Yorkshire coast.
