From school days in Dublin to globe conquering stadium monsters, U2 have travelled a long way in a career spanning four decades. This is the first part of a two part documentary taking them from their humble rocking roots in the 1970s through to making the albums, Boy, October, The Joshua Tree in 1987 and the movie and album Rattle and Hum. There are interviews with the band and many of the producers who've worked with them. Presented by long term U2 fan Simon Mayo and repeated as part of 6 Music Celebrates Ireland.
