Synopsis
Presented by Jenni Murray. Nancy Dell'Olio on turning 50. Male Circumcision: Can it cause problems later in life? Pensions Update - the effect on women.
Nancy Dell'Olio
Nancy Dell’Olio first came to the attention of the British public as the ‘first lady of football’, as the then girlfriend of the former England team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. She turns fifty this August and has decided to publicly celebrate this ‘magical time’. She’s the guest columnist for the launch of a new online magazine, high50.com, which is aimed at a new generation of fifty-somethings. She joins Jenni to talk about finding love and happiness as she enters her 50th year and how she feels that life really does begin at fifty.
Pension update
The planned changes to the state pension age could leave hundreds of thousands of women now in their mid-50s seriously short of pension provision. The work and pensions secretary, Iain Duncan Smith resisted cross-party pressure to alter the plans to increase the retirement age for women from 65 in 2018 to 66 to 2020 – but says “transitional arrangements” will be put in place. Ros Altmann, financial expert and Director General of Saga Magazine. discusses the issues and address some of your concerns.
Male Circumcision
New research from Denmark suggests that circumcised men are three times more likely to experience certain types of sexual problems than men who haven’t been circumcised. In particular, the researchers claim they found circumcised men are three times more likely to have trouble reaching orgasm. But does the research prove what the Danish scientists think it proves? Dr Morten Frisch carried out the research at the Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, he’ll join Jenni along with Professor Michael King who studies sexual dysfunction at University College London.
Surburban Mousewife
A group from London have set up a punk band – Suburban Mousewife. They all have children and they’re all past 40. They’ve not hit the big time yet, but they’re getting regular spots at music venues and one critic said their lyrics "eviscerate". Paola Buonadonna caught up with them at a gig.
