The Shergar Story

"Shergar wins the Derby, and you need a telescope to see the rest".

With those words BBC radio commentator Peter Bromley immortalised Shergar's historic 10-length Derby win in 1981.

Thirty years on, 5 live Sport celebrates a truly special horse, featuring a rare interview with owner the Aga Khan. His Highness recounts his memories of the day and tells Mick Fitzgerald about the unique regard he still holds Shergar in, as well as explaining his decision not to turn his back on Ireland after the horse was fatally kidnapped by the IRA.

Ian Payne, Clare Balding and Cornelius Lysaght hear from jockey Walter Swinburn, trainer Sir Michael Stoute and Sean O'Callaghan, a former member of the IRA, to examine the enduring mystery of Shergar's disappearance.
