The Movie Café's Ian Boffey interviews arguably the most influential hairdresser of all time Vidal Sassoon in anticipation of the documentary film about his life Vidal Sassoon the Movie being released on Friday 20th May. Vidal's story is one of rags-to-riches; the movie traces his life story from an orphanage in the East End to his time as a soldier in Israel to his eventual international success and celebrity.

Our DVD of the Week is Biutiful, released Monday 16th May. Starring Javier Bardiem and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu this is the story of a man's fated journey as he struggles to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and mortality. A love story between a conflicted man and his children, this is a complex movie which ends where it begins.

The official launch of the Edinburgh International Film Festival is Tuesday 17th so Janice will be giving us the latest news from it, as well as the other latest film news.

The first ever UK Green Film Festival is taking place in Glasgow, London, Leicester, Leeds and Cardiff and showcases films and filmmakers engaged with environmental and climate change themes. Rachel Loughlan who has curated a fringe programme of green events which will run alongside the film programme at the Glasgow Film Theatre joins us in the studio and we'll hear a clip from PLANEAT, the film recommended by Paul McCartney to help us realise the damage our eating habits do to the planet.
