Declan is joined by the outgoing boss of Persimmon, John White and the founder of Addison Lee John Griffin. We go back to the 1980s, and find out why his taxi business started with horses. And it was around this time that unemployment was at a high in Britain. The boss of head hunting firm Taylor Bennett, Heather McGregor, talks about this week's job figures - and how they compare to that time, thirty years ago.

    John White has been Chairman of Persimmon for five years. He has spent all his working life in the housing industry. He first joined Persimmon in 1979 rising to Chief Executive in 1993, a role he held for 13 years before becoming Chairman.

    John Griffin - Chairman, Addison Lee

    John Griffin founded Addison Lee in Battersea in 1975, with a single minicab. The company is now the largest taxi fleet in Europe, with over 2,600 vehicles, carrying 10 million passengers a year.

    John is a Fellow of the Prince of Wales Enterprise Fellowship, Chairman of the Private Hire Car Association and President of the Private Hire Board. John has also been appointed a Skills Ambassador for London by the Learning and Skills council

    In his spare time, John is a keen golfer and supports a number of local charities and youth centres. He is a member of the Variety Club Golf Society and has sponsored the annual Addison Lee Footballers' Golf Classic at La Manga Golf Club since 1996.

    Named Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009-10, John’s entrepreneurial interests include Heritage Key, a virtual world teaching website, a company that supplies motoring parts to Ford and he is the lead investor in the upcoming music festival for school-leavers, ‘First Days of Freedom’.

    Heather McGregor - Managing Partner, Taylor Bennett

    Heather joined Taylor Bennett in 2000 and is now the company’s principal shareholder. She graduated from Newcastle University in 1984 and then worked in advertising and financial PR before joining an Anglo-Australian biotechnology company for five years doing their corporate communications and corporate finance. While there Heather

    studied for her MBA at the London Business School. Upon graduation she joined ABN AMRO’s equities division as an investment analyst and worked, over an eight-year period, in London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. Heather has a PhD in structural finance from the University of Hong Kong and is a visiting professor at Cass, City University Business School.

    She is also an experienced journalist and regularly contributes to national newspapers and magazines. At Taylor Bennett, Heather focuses on investor relations and senior communications appointments for public companies in Europe, and in specialist communications for financial services organisations.
