Steven Moffat has pointed out that episode 7 of this series is also the 777th episode of Doctor Who. There are no 'seven puns' in the adventure as the coincidence was only observed after it was shot.

A Good Man Goes to War features the return of the brilliant Nicholas Briggs as the Voice of the Cybermen. Nicholas has previously provided voices for many of the Doctor's most iconic foes, including the Daleks and Judoon and he appeared in Torchwood: Children of Earth, delivering a memorable performance as politician Rick Yates.

The Prequel to episode 7 was shot on 27 January, 2011 on the same day that the Rory's scenes with the Cybermen were filmed. The Prequel featured the return of Simon Fisher-Becker as Dorium, last seen in The Pandorica Opens.

Other returning faces include Dan Starkey who first played a Sontaran in The Sontaran Stratagem and Neve McIntosh, last seen playing a Silurian in Cold Blood. We finally find out a little more about Kovarian (Frances Barber), whom we've glimpsed throughout the past few adventures, and it's the third episode of the series to star Alex Kingston as River Song.

Episode 7 also sees the return of Hugh Bonneville as Captain Avery and Oscar Lloyd as his son, Toby. Although their appearance is fleeting, Peter Hoar directed the cameo and said Hugh Bonneville was brilliant at leaping into the situation and accomplishing the scene so swiftly.

At one point, Madame Vastra mentions 'Abberline'. In real life, Frederick Abberline (1843 - 1929) was a Chief Inspector in the London Metropolitan Police and was one of the most senior officers in the force's hunt for Jack the Ripper.

Charlie Baker stars as the 'Fat One'. Before appearing on Doctor Who he was probably best known for winning 2011's Let's Dance for Comic Relief. Charlie has said that during the read through for A Good Man Goes to War he suddenly realised he was going to be part of television history!

The read through for A Good Man Goes to War took place on Thursday, 6 January 2011 at the BBC's Upper Boat studios.
