So who are we now? Historian Alistair Moffat reaches the present day in his journey to trace the origins of the Scottish people. With the help of historical geneticist Jim Wilson, he unravels the clues we can glean from surnames, which are co -inherited with the male Y chromosome.
Together they piece together the effect of all the major migrations of people into Scotland - how much have they enriched the Scottish gene pool? The evidence is that all Scots are immigrants. The only difference between us is how far back our ancestors arrived and where they came from.
