Historian Alistair Moffat visits Lindisfarne, Dumbarton Rock and Stirling Castle on his journey to trace the origins of the Scots people, from the Ice Age onwards.

He pinpoints the arrival of the Vikings in our history, and with the help of historical geneticist Jim Wilson he finds out how much of their DNA type has been inherited in today's population. Everybody may want to be a Viking, but only some of us are!
