Nigeria will hold presidential elections in April 2011 but few believe they will mark a new beginning for the country's many desperate people.

Ibrahim Shekarau is a presidential candidate for the opposition All Nigeria People's Party. Since 2003 he has been the Governor of Kano, one of Nigeria's most important states. He governs through Sharia, Islamic law. Zeinab Badawi asks him how he aims to reduce religious tensions that have seen hundreds killed in the past year and unite a country that is blighted by separatist movements.
