Aaron Shah and Rachel Hughes
Managers of the Bradfield Club in Peckham. Working to support the local community the club provides a safe environment for young people aged between 4 and 20. There’s a Kids Club for 4-11 year olds doing tennis and street dance classes, and also two youth drop-in sessions where members can play pool, table tennis, basketball, football and have dinner. Specially-commissioned artwork at the club is done by local graffiti artist Ben McKay.
HRH the Prince of Wales
Prince Charles has long been interested in the work done in deprived communities and for young people, through his Charity, The Prince’s Trust. His Royal Highness got to hear of the church’s success story and visited All Saints’ to see for himself what local Christians are doing for their Community.
Peckham Space
A new arts venue for London which opened in June 2010 with a new approach to commissioning, making and exhibiting art. Peckham Space is an arts organisation that is part of Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London in partnership with Southwark Council. Artists are commissioned to work with residents and young people from Peckham, to encourage progression routes for young people into creative higher education as well as increase access to cultural and educational activity in Peckham.
The current exhibition Peckham Heroes celebrates Peckham’s historical and famous residents. Artist Jessica Voorsanger has transformed Peckham Space into a drop in day-time karaoke bar dedicated to ten personalities that have a connection with Peckham.
The young local artists exhibiting at Peckham Space who were featured in the programme were:
Ashley Morris
Sarah Adetola
William Phong Ly
