Synopsis

Episode image for The Man Machine: Kraftwerk, Krautrock and the German Electronic Revolution

As 6 Music celebrates the influence of Kraftwerk on the 30th anniversary of The Model reaching number 1 in the charts, there's another chance to hear Jarvis Cocker present the story of one of popular music's most influential groups.

Jarvis also assesses the contribution of some of Kratwerk's contemporaries and tellss the story of a group of musicians that have had a significant impact on acts and movements as diverse as David Bowie and Coldplay, hip hop and the new romantics. The programme features a rare interview with Kraftwerk founding member and only remaining original Ralph Hutter, and also examines the part played in the "Krautrock" movement by the other German electronic music exponents of the Seventies such as Neu! and Tangerine Dream.
