Synopsis
Each week Aled Jones plays tracks from a broad musical spectrum, that celebrates both our choral traditions and the vibrant world of modern music, as well as spiritually uplifting and reflective music. He also discusses religious and ethical issues of the week with faith representatives.
Aled Jones says Good Morning Sunday to 'quintessentially English' singer-songwriter Leddra Chapman, who performs a song for Good Morning Sunday. Leddra started writing songs at the age of 12 and is currently honing her art at the London College of Music. Aled's faith guest is composer Patrick Hawes who regularly collaborates with his brother, an Anglican vicar, but has recently been working on a solo project, the Highgrove Suite, commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales to celebrate the stunning gardens at his Gloucestershire home.
Leddra Chapman
At the age of 12, Leddra Chapman picked up one of her dad’s guitars and wrote her first song. Realising she had a knack of capturing emotion in her lyrics and melodies, Leddra continued to write songs while still at school, and taught herself to play the piano and produce demos of her songs in the small home-studio her dad had built in a room attached to their garage. Leddra released her debut album, Telling Tales, in 2010 and is currently working on a music degree at the London College of Music.
Leddra faced bullying at school because of her musical talents and she talks to Aled about how she overcame the bullies, and how she first became interested in religion at the age of about 7.
Faith Guest - Patrick Hawes
Patrick Hawes is one of the country’s most popular and inspirational classical composers. His work is often deeply inspired by his Christian faith and he works in collaboration with his brother, Father Andrew, a vicar in Lincolnshire. But his latest project has taken inspiration from something quite different. Originally conceived for the birthday of His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, The Highgrove Suite has been inspired by the gardens at Highgrove and Patrick joins Aled to explain more about it.
