With the establishment of the new Serious and Serial Crime Unit Luther is given the opportunity to make amends. Luther returns with one intention only, to redeem Justin Ripley's career. In order to do so he throws himself once again into his work, and his genius, dazzle and passion are reignited.

Simultaneously he is quickly reminded of the consuming nature of the campaign for Justice and despite himself, becomes immersed into the darkness of the crimes he is dealing with. His dedication is a curse and a blessing for him and all those close to him.

Idris Elba

Idris Elba won the NAACP Outstanding Actor award and was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Golden Satellite for his portrayal of DCI Luther in the first series. Prior to Luther, Idris was widely known for his role as Russell 'Stringer' Bell in NBC's acclaimed US drama The Wire.

The British born actor has also starred in many films and television dramas such as Rocknrolla, The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, the US version of The Office and American Gangster, for which he received a nomination from the Screen Actors Guild for Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture.

In 2009, he opened at the top of the US box office in the thriller Obsessed, opposite Beyonce Knowles. In 2010, Idris led the casts of two big budget action movies - The Losers and Takers and in 2011/2012, he will appear in three other big budget movies - Prometheus, Thor and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, as well as featuring in Showtime's new TV series 'The Big C'. Idris is also a DJ under the moniker DJ Big Driis and recently released his second EP.
