Synopsis
Women's hockey: India v Scotland
Hosts India await Scotland in their opening match in pool A, a real test for the Scots in front of thousands of fanatical Indian supporters. Scotland's women came a creditable fifth at the 2006 Commonwealth Games but they could not have asked for a much tougher start, facing a side ten places above them in the world rankings.
Netball: England v Barbados
England's netballers begin their Commonwealth campaign against Barbados. England won bronze in Melbourne 2006, and a good start in Delhi will give them valuable momentum in their quest to challenge Australia and New Zealand, the two big guns of the sport.
Gymnastics: men's artistic team final
The home nations go for gold in the men's team competition, with four gymnasts competing for each country. England, Scotland and Wales have won gymnastics medals at the Commonwealth Games and will have more medal chances at the Indira Ghandi Sport Complex in Delhi, but Canada and Australia pose the strongest threats.
Plus the latest news from the badminton, tennis and weightlifting competitions.
