Synopsis
We can't keep this chap away .. it's Sweet Baboo in session this evening. Sweet Baboo is AKA Stephen Black from the mountains of North Wales and Marc just can't get enough of him.
A key member of the Welsh music scene, he has made many appearances on record and in the live bands of artists such as Cate Le Bon, El Goodo, Richard James, Spencer McGarry Season and Euros Childs. A shared
musicality with Childs (the ex-Gorky's Zygotic Mynci frontman) led to Black co-producing Child's latest LP, 'Son of Euro Child'. In 2008 he was invited to perform in the backing band of another cult hero, Daniel Johnston.
After a series of self released homemade EPs and appearances on various compilation albums, Sweet Baboo released two full length albums on his own Businessman Records. 'The Mighty Baboo' (2008) and 'Hello Wave' (2009) led to radio sessions for us, Gideon Coe and Stuart Maconie.
This summer sees the release of his third and most ambitious album, 'I'm a Dancer/Songs About Sleeping'. The album - songs of lost love, girls, drinking and sleeping - was recorded at his home in North Wales with the help of a talented group of musicians. Rob Jones (Voluntary Butler Scheme) co-produced and the band included musicians such as Avvon Chambers (Spencer Mcgarry Season), Alex Williams (Islet) and his brother, Dave Baboo.
