Episode 18 of 25, Beechgrove Garden, 2010

Duration: 30 minutes

The whole Beechgrove team are on the move this week to help in the final stages of the second Beechgrove community garden of the series.

The team are in the Morningside area of Edinburgh where numerous community groups and individuals have joined forces to create a pioneering community garden in a forgotten space on the grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. The Royal Edinburgh Community Garden has united a vast network of people, who have all been working together to rejuvenate acres of the 15 acre site, which was once a market garden for the hospital. The site is being transformed into a welcoming and inclusive space that encourages people from all walks of life to work collectively and enjoy the huge benefits that gardening brings.

With around 2000 people on the City of Edinburgh Council allotment waiting list, the demand for access to land is huge, and the Royal Edinburgh Community Garden is creating a space where
everyone is encouraged to come along and enjoy gardening together and to prove that gardening is good for you in every aspect.

Jim, Carole, Lesley, George and Carolyn are out and about visiting some beautiful gardens in Morningside, as well as solving a few gardening problems.
