Vic's Album Of The Week: Aberfeldy
Aberfeldy - Somewhere to Jump From (Tenement Records)
Edinburgh songsmith Riley Briggs is one of Scotland's, if not the World's, best pop writers in my eyes. His classic grasp of the craft, combined with a wry rhyming couplet or 2, is second to none. On this, Aberfeldy's third LP, there are light-hearted moments running through the lyrics and musical themes, but many of the songs deal with real heartache. It's touching and truly moving in places, and as always the melodies are sweet and immediately catchy. More reminiscent of their debut 'Forever Young' sonically; acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies, 80's keyboard sounds and the occasional fiddle dominate the 12 songs. Album of the week it is, and they'll be in session for me as well. Grab a copy when it appears in shops and online on the 6th September. -
