Pam follows in the footsteps of Florence Nightingale when she journeys to Istanbul, known during Florence’s time as Constantinople. Pam takes a ferry past the famous Scutari Barracks, on the Asian side of the Bosphuros, which housed the hospital in which Florence worked during the Crimean War. [The War had begun in 1854 an alliance between Britain, Turkey and France against the rising power of Russia].
Pam also visits the Haidar Pasha Cemetery, first established for British soldiers killed in the Crimean conflict. It now belongs to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. -
