HIS CHRISTMAS DAY
In the first story, Paddy McQuillan leaves his home in rural Ballycuddy - a fictitious townland in County Down - to travel to Belfast on Christmas Day.
On arrival, he is invited to take a ride on a jaunting car and to see the sights of Belfast. The driver tells Paddy that it's a great thing to be a Mason - because then you can get in anywhere for free! Tempted by this, Paddy asks how he can join and is given some rather questionable advice!
After getting something to eat in a Belfast tea-shop, Paddy heads to a Lodge and carries out the driver's instructions with unfortunate - and painful - results!
Gibson Young (The Doorkeeper at the Lodge)
Laura Spence (Teashop Waitress)
HIS TRIP TAE GLESCO (PART 1)
In the second story, Paddy decides, despite his mother's warnings, to make a visit to Glasgow. Armed with plenty of bread and butter, he takes the steam train to Belfast and buys his ticket for the boat.
On board, Paddy is very seasick but he is befriended by a Scotsman called Sauny who stays by his side until they reach Glasgow. Sauny takes Paddy to a tea-house for some refreshment. This story is continued next week.
Sally Young / Will McAvoy (Paddy & his Mum)
Johnny Muir (Sauny)
Carolann Mure (Glasgow Waitress)
Many thanks to both Johnny Muir and Carolann Mure for assisting with the Glasgow accents.
They are both Scots who work in BBC Belfast - and were press-ganged into the recording Studio! Much appreciated....
