Hope and Homes for Children

Kate Adie appeals on behalf of Hope and Homes for Children which provides family-based care for vulnerable children across central and Eastern Europe and Africa. Hope and Homes for Children moves children out of institutions into family-based care, helps keep families at risk of breakdown together and works to prevent child abandonment.

Kate Adie with beneficiaries of Hope and Homes for Children

Kate is pictured with beneficiaries of Hope and Homes for Children’s programmes in Moldova and its even poorer breakaway state of Transnistria. During her trip, Kate visited a handful of institutions where the charity is working intensively on its integrated closure and child support projects.

With a population of 4.3 million people, Moldova is Europe’s poorest country. It has an increasing brain and brawn drain of workers heading overseas for more lucrative earnings, leading to an increase in family breakdown and child abandonment. The majority of abandoned children are condemned to childhoods in bleak state-run institutions.
