Synopsis
Presented by Martin Handley.
From the City of London Festival, which this year celebrates culture from the Portuguese-speaking world, a recital combining European classical repertoire with African-inspired Brazilian music. The repertoire includes two Concertos for keyboard and orchestra by J.S. Bach; Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9, inspired by the German Baroque master, as well as other music from Brazil by Egberto Gismonti as well as folk music and songs, the latter arranged by Joanna McGregor, who directs the Britten Sinfonia from the piano. There's also a prominent role for Brazilian percussion virtuoso Adriano Adewale.
