Synopsis

Each week Aled Jones plays tracks from a broad musical spectrum, that celebrates both our choral traditions and the vibrant world of modern music as well as spiritually uplifting and reflective music. He also discusses religious and ethical issues of the week with faith representatives.

Aled says Good Morning Sunday to actor and comedian Omid Djalili about his new film The Infidel, in which he plays a British Asian Muslim who discovers he's actually Jewish. Omid talks to Aled about his Iranian background and his Bahai faith. Looking ahead to the Sikh New Year festival, Vaisakhi, Dr Savi Arora discusses the news of the week from a faith perspective, and gives the Moment of Reflection.

Sunday Spotlight

The spotlight falls on Krista Detor, a singer, songwriter from Indianna. Her latest album is called ‘Chocolate Paper Suites’, where each ‘suite’ is loosely connected by theme and imagery inspired by the works of Frederico Garcia Lorca, Dylan Thomas and Charles Darwin, among other thinkers, artists and experiences. One critic called the album “A small miracle......... wonderful, compelling”.

In March 2009 Krista Detor was chosen to be a part of the Darwin Songhouse a group of writers challenged with creating new songs that had a ‘resonance and relevance to Darwin’. For seven days in a farmhouse in Darwin’s hometown of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, Krista, with other songwriters worked intensely to create songs to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.

Krista doesn’t like being defined by a genre: “The whole musical world is changing; maybe the tight restrictions of ‘genre’ are finally being set aside. The world is so wide…”. We’ve chosen this song for you……..Rich Man’s Life……….

Omid Djalili

Award winning comedian and actor Omid Djalili made his name in stand-up before being given his own series on BBC1. He’s featured in a number of films, including Notting Hill, Pirates of the Caribbean and Gladiator, and last year starred as Fagin in the West End production of Oliver. As a British Iranian, he’s often cast as a middle Eastern characters, but in his latest film he plays a very ordinary British Muslim cab driver. Ordinary, until he uncovers his birth certificate and he realises that he’s actually Jewish…
