Osborne: budget contained an effective income tax rise
Shadow Chancellor George Osborne says that Alistair Darling has hit workers with an effective rise in income tax "buried in the small print"of his budget, in freezing the tax-free personal allowance.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer claims that the UK economy is on the road to recovery, and that steady growth is required for stability. He says: "we're not out of the woods yet".
