Episode 1 of 3

Duration: 1 hour

Funny, poignant and pacey new series following presenter Sue Perkins as she attempts to breathe new life into Dinnington Colliery Brass Band - a once proud symbol of a quintessentially British form of music, which is now on the verge of extinction.

Dinnington Band, from just outside Sheffield, South Yorkshire, has survived two world wars, the miners' strike and the demise of the pits. But now it's down to a handful of core members, including septuagenarians Joan and Kay, and Kay's daughters Sally, Joanne, and Penny. They are a formidable family, but they seem to be fighting a losing battle to keep Dinnington alive. Until Sue Perkins arrives...

Sue leads the Dinningon die-hards on a dramatic crusade, hunting down new players, whipping them into shape, and dragging a new-look band back to the concert stage.
