You'll often see it on the TV news: the reconstruction using a young officer playing the part of the victim, the roadblocks, the television appeals for witnesses to come forward. The publicity value for the detective team is obvious, but I wanted to explore whether memories really can be jogged, and what real information can be mined this way.
