Synopsis
News and conversation about the big stories of the week with Paddy O'Connell.
14/03/2010
On BH this week Paddy met Keith Shortman, a sixty two year old man with learning difficulties. He's a similar age to David Askew who collapsed and died in his garden in Greater Manchester after a campaign of intimidation. As Keith showed Paddy around the market where he works, he explained how he too has been the victim of hate crime. We also heard from Anne Williams, England's National Director for Learning Difficulties, and her Co-Director Scott Watkin who also has learning difficulties.
Lord David Steel spoke to us about meeting up with Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg to talk hung parliaments and Paddy interviewed Facebook's European Director of Policy. We had a listener respond to last week's item on rehabilitation - he got in touch to talk to us about his own experiences following release from prison explaining "some friends and family hold me beneath contempt," and asking for "any tips?" on ways forward. Miles Jupp, Stanley Johnson and Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock reviewed the papers. We also had a bit of fun imagining what Gordon Brown on Match of the Day 2 might have sounded like.
