INTERVIEWS
THE REV. WENDY SANDERS
Christ Church Cockermouth
Vicar of Christ Church, Cockermouth. In November 2009, Christ Church was transformed into a Flood Centre where people flocked to get advice and support and Wendy found herself at the heart of the Flood relief programme – offering encouragement to the many people in her parish who’d suffered in the flooding. -
JULIE RICKERBY
Julie, whose parents also live with her, suffered a double catastrophe, when her home and her business “Julie’s Sandwich Place” were flood damaged. She shows Sally around her home and the local shops on Cockermouth’s Main Street that have been affected, including her own. Julie talks about her determination to get back in business.
-
PAUL FILBY
Paul is part of a specialist RNLI flood team that came from Wales to Cumbria to assist in the rescue effort. He was assigned to Cockermouth and was shocked at what the water had done to the town. Paul goes to a backstreet in Cockermouth to relive one particular rescue that he’ll always remember.

RICHARD & FAITH COLE
Richard and Faith moved to Cumbria 3 years ago to improve the quality of their life for their family and 2 foster children. The November flood wrecked the ground floor of the house they were in the process of restoring. They tell Sally how their experience in the floods has taught them valuable lessons.
-
DAVID & JILL POINTON
David & Jill live in a secluded valley just by the River Cocker. On the night of the 19th November the river was transformed into a noisy unstoppable torrent. When the waters receded, the Pointons were in for a shock – 2000 tons of stones and gravel had been left in their meadow. They tell Sally how they feel it is their duty to future generations to restore the meadow to how it was.
