The Winner
Euphonium player, Matthew White (19) has won the Radio 2 Young Brass Soloist Competition 2010. He said that "although it’s the third time I've been in the competition it doesn't get any easier as the standard goes up each year" - but he is very pleased to have finally been successful.
He plays regularly with the Pemberton Old Band, and several fellow band members, along with his family, were there to cheer him on as part of the capacity audience at The Royal Northern College of Music.
Look out for Matthew on a future Friday Night Is Music and Listen To The Band, where he'll be playing with a top band at a prestigious event.
