INTERVIEWS
The Dean of Southwark Cathedral and playwright John Constable
Later this year Southwark Cathedral will host a revival of a Mystery Play inspired by historical events in and around the borough. The play is a collaboration between local author John Constable and the Dean of Southwark, Colin Slee. We talk to them both about the mystery play tradition and the challenges of writing a Mystery play for the twenty-first century.
Matilda Esan
While she was at school Matilda’s ambition was to study medicine at King's College, the medical school attached to the world-famous Guy’s hospital in Southwark. However while studying for her A levels she was given the devastating news that she had the serious eye condition Keratoconus. Her sight in one eye deteriorated to the point where even reading became difficult. In her interview Matilda talks about her determination to become a doctor and how her faith supported her in difficult times.
Tim and Grace Idowu
Tim and Grace marked the first anniversary of their son’s death with a community event in Southwark for hundreds of people. David was just fourteen when he died as a result of being stabbed by another teenager in the park close to his home. In the programme Tim and Grace talk about their campaign against violent crime in the UK and their feelings of forgiveness towards their son’s killer, who is now serving a custodial sentence. -
