They have just one week in each location to master an indigenous sport, training and rituals whilst eating and sleeping as their local competitors do. How will our five athletes hack it in this extreme tribal world?

Lesley Sackey, 27, from London: Boxer
Lesley took the gold in the ABA European Unions in August 2008 and the ABA British Champion Welterweight title in 2007. She’s currently in the selection process for Team GB in the 2012 Olympics and could be among the first women boxers taking part in the games. Not bad for someone who only started boxing four years ago having never taken part in any sport. She was raised in North London by her mum and her two brothers.

Alex Alam, 19, Essex: Personal trainer
The youngest of the competitors Alex probably has the most strings to her bow. At only 19 she has qualified as a personal trainer, competed at gym fitness, show jumping & cross country, and body building. Despite all this she is still enjoys 'girly pursuits - her Chihuahua is called Jimmy Choo after her favourite shoe designer.

Anna Campbell, 23, from Kenya: Wakeboarder
Anna was born in Kenya to an expat family who sent her to boarding school in the UK when she was 12. Don’t be fooled by the accent. Anna might sound posh but her privileged background has led her to challenge herself with some of the most extreme and dangerous water sports on earth. She wakeboards, kite surfs, drives power boats and will turn her hand to anything as long as it feeds the adrenaline junkie in her.

Joni Swanston, 23, from Northern Irelan: Rugby Player
Joni has played rugby for Richmond and Ulster and represented Ireland at sailing and Northern Ireland at netball. She is well-known for her wicked sense of humour, her determination and for being very competitive. She’s also as tough as nails and doesn’t take kindly to anyone moaning, giving up or people foolish enough to suggest that women worse at sport as men.

Natalie Smith, 24, from Newcastle: Kettleball lifter
Geordie Natalie is a kettlebell lifter and endurance runner. Her mother left the family home when she was very young and she turned to sport as a way of staying positive and to keep her from the temptations of being a teenager in a disadvantaged area. Until she retired from dancing when she was 18 she was an adult champion and she still manages to make time to cycle, rock-climb and for long distance running, including the Great North Run.
