This Week on Out of Doors
As the cold spell continues, we take a look at the hardship currently being suffered by farmers around the country, who are spending entire days feeding animals and de-icing water troughs. Plus, we seek advice on how to prevent your barn roof falling in, as has been the case throughout rural Aberdeenshire this week with fatal consequences for some livestock. In addition to this, we hear how the welfare of animals living outdoors could be compromised by the weather.
This week also saw the introduction of a temporary ban on wildfowling - we explore the reasons behind this and look at how birds are faring in the wintry conditions.
Mark visits the Lecht Ski Centre, and gets an insight into the highs and lows of near perfect skiing conditions.
And as part of BBC Radio Scotland's 'A New Year, A New You' campaign, we welcome motivational coach Polly Murray to the programme, to give us advice on how to set outdoor goals for 2010….and, more importantly, achieve them.
Continuing this theme, Denise Glass gets some practical advice on how to fulfil the very common new year's resolution of taking up jogging, with physiotherapist Lynn Newcombe.
Helen hears how Steven Fallon, who is on his way to completing the munros for the fourteenth time, manages to motivate himself.
Mark embraces his fear of heights by undertaking the assault course at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena.
And Euan sneaks in on preparations for what looks likely to be the first Grand Match run by the Royal Caledonian Curling Club on the Lake of Monteith since 1979 - which is set to take place on Monday. -
