Synopsis

Anne-Marie McAleese and the team go in search of the weird and wonderful across Northern Ireland, reflecting local life and offering a guide to the things to see and do.

CHRISTMAS IN CASTLETOWN

Local poet, artist and storyteller, Declan Forde talks to Anne Marie about “Christmas in Castletown”: an evening dedicated to stories, monologues and songs that celebrate Christmas and life in the Sperrin Mountains. This event will be held on Wednesday 30th December at the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh. Ring them for tickets on 028 8224 3292.

CHRISTMAS EVENTS

The first annual Sixmilecross Santa Charity Run takes place today (19th December) and will feature a new NI Athletic Approved 5k run around the scenic countryside roads. It starts at 11am on the main street of Sixmilecross. Entry is £5 per person or £15 per family and proceeds will be going to community charity Sixmilecross Enterprise Ltd and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Today, The New Life Centre in Limavady is the location for a Christmas Country Market. The market offers the best in home made cakes, preserves, bread, crafts, plants and other varied home produce ready wrapped to take home. It takes place at between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm in the New Life Centre, Central Car Park, Limavady.

STAINED GLASS

Deirdre Donnelly visited Alpha Studios in Derry to meet Joe Coyle in his workshop overlooking the historic Walls. They have just fitted a series of 12 new windows into the newly refurbished playhouse in Derry and on Sunday 20th December they have a night dedicated to these windows.

OUR WEE WORLD

“Our Wee World – Three Wise Men” returns again this year for another special Christmas edition with children across Northern Ireland taking part in festive drama, music and storytelling. Anne Marie chats to some of the stars of the show, storyteller Maurice Todd, and Barnish P4 pupil and narrator, Danny Gilmore. The programme will serve up a festive treat for viewers on Sunday, December 20 at 7.30pm on BBC One Northern Ireland.

KNOCKMANY CHAMBERED CAIRN

Davy Sims visited Knockmany Chambered Cairn and got his very own private tour with Professor Mark Bailey, Director of the Armagh Observatory and Edith Logue from the NI Environmental Agency. The Cairn is in Knockmany forest, just north of Augher, off the B83 and is open by appointment but you can visit the site throughout the year.
