Synopsis
Each week Aled Jones plays tracks from a broad musical spectrum, that celebrates both our choral traditions and the vibrant world of modern music as well as spiritually uplifting and reflective music. He also discusses religious and ethical issues of the week with faith representatives.
This week, Aled says Good Morning Sunday to Julia Ogilvy, a successful businesswoman who has reshaped her life following a family tragedy. And Dr Savi Arora discusses the week's news from a faith and ethics perspective and gives the Moment of Reflection.
Julia Ogilvy
Julia Ogilvy was Scottish Businesswoman of the Year in 2001, and has a proven track-record transforming companies from near-bankruptcy to healthy profit. But the devastating illness of a child led her to reconsider her priorities and in 2003 she left the business world to set up ProjectScotland. The charity coordinates young people working on community projects, which has resulted in over 2 million hours worth of volunteering. She’s recently written a book about the life-changing experience that led her to leave the business world, and the transformations that others have experienced - Turning Points: Stories To Change Your Life, ISBN 9780745953809.
Dr Savi Arora
Dr Savi Arora describes himself as "Broadcaster, Podcaster, Columnist, Political Blogger, Company Director, Interfaith and Media Commentator". He produces the podcast "Sikhwithin" which aims to inform and engage people in sharing knowledge about Sikhism. It also aims to improve interfaith dialogue through education.
Savi is a trustee of the Interfaith Youth Trust and chats to Aled about the recent Interfaith Week. He also provides the Moment of Reflection.
The Revd Stephen Brown
The Revd Stephen Brown has recently retired as Vicar of Ripley and Burnt Yates churches in Harrogate. He continues his work as motivational trainer and after dinner speaker, and is also Chaplain to Yorkshire television. He writes for the religious press and the Yorkshire Post, as well as appearances on Good Morning Sunday, reviewing his pick of the latest film releases.
This week, Stephen discusses the films Nativity and Cold Souls.
Sunday Spotlight - Howard Jones with the Morriston Orpheus Choir
Howard Jones has had a hugely successful career and been described as one of the defining figures of mid 1980s synth-pop, with songs like “What Is Love”, “New Song”, and “Life In One Day”.
Howard is now an enthusiastic follower of a particular strain of Japanese Buddhism, which he says has had an inspirational and empowering effect on his life, helping him to counter any negative tendencies with a positive attitude.
His latest album is called “Ordinary Heroes”, which focuses on ordinary people displaying courage. Featured on this album is the Morriston Orpheus Choir. "We recorded the choir in a chapel in Swansea. I was overwhelmed when I heard the impact of their singing on the track".
Aled plays the track, "Soon You’ll Go" – about his daughter leaving home for university.
