Synopsis
Eileen’s first day at the community centre didn’t start well when she clashed with Joe and the boxers. Eileen had very different ideas about the direction the community centre should take. Her feud with Joe led to the boxing club walking out and, with help from Innes, they mounted a protest.
The boxing club wasn’t all Eileen had to contend with: Margaret suggested organising a St Andrew’s Day ceilidh, to help her settle into Shieldinch; Liz had written a play, and Scarlett was keen on line dancing sessions. All suggestions were brushed off by Eileen who had more “aspirational” activities in mind. However, she was disappointed when takers for her conversational Portuguese and Haiku classes were thin on the ground.
Joe confided in Murray that council big-wigs were about to arrive. Murray tipped Eileen off and she was forced to put things right. That meant apologising to everyone she’d offended, grovelling to Joe and the boxing club, and getting the centre looking busy. Thanks to Raymond, Eileen’s bacon was saved in the end but not before she’d found herself forced to agree to Liz’s Christmas play, the Ceilidh and the line dancing…
It looked as though Murray and Eileen were getting along great until she discovered he wasn’t really there to start his adult literacy classes but to secretly give her a hand. A proud Eileen declared she didn’t need his help.
Over at Just Gordon there were shenanigans when Gordon left Robbie in charge for the morning. Robbie enjoyed lording it over Jack and when a special client of Gordon’s, Arlene, came in, Robbie was keen to prove a point and he set about giving her a new look. Arlene suffers from narcolepsy, however, and she had an episode in the salon. When she passed out, Robbie was left unaware of her condition, so he assumed she was dead.
Jack returned to find Robbie convinced he had murdered a client. Despite knowing of Arlene’s condition, Jack allowed Robbie to think he was the cause of her death as payback for Robbie’s earlier behaviour. Robbie was beside himself. Arlene woke up and gave Robbie an almighty shock. When she explained her condition Robbie decided to take revenge on Jack. Robbie sent Arlene safely home but told Jack he’d sent her to the morgue! Now it was Jack’s turn to panic. Gordon revealed he had seen Arlene in the street, leaving Jack to heave a sigh of relief.
