Synopsis
Each week Aled Jones plays tracks from a broad musical spectrum, that celebrates both our choral traditions and the vibrant world of modern music as well as spiritually uplifting and reflective music. He also discusses religious and ethical issues of the week with faith representatives.
This week, Aled says Good Morning Sunday to Sharon Corr about growing up in a Catholic family in Ireland. And in Prisons Week, prison chaplain Michael McMahon discusses the week's news from a faith and ethics perspective and gives the Moment of Reflection.
Sharon Corr
Sharon Corr is usually one quarter of the hugely successful Irish band, The Corrs. Sharon wrote many of the award-winning tracks that have given The Corrs multiple Platinum awards, as well as playing violin and singing backing harmonies in the group. But she’s currently taking time out to release an album of solo work and her debut single It’s Not A Dream – written solely by Sharon and recorded with her new 7 piece band – enjoyed time on the Radio 2 playlist earlier this year.
Faith Guest - Michael McMahon
Thomas Lauderdale - Pink Martini
We often have emails enquiring about the music played on Good Morning Sunday and recently two tracks have attracted particular attention. Pink Martini’s latest album Splendor In The Grass was released at the end of October with their trademark mixture of classical, jazz and vintage pop performed in a wide variety of languages. Thomas Lauderdale is the band leader and pianist and has popped into the studio on the eve of their concert at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Sunday Spotlight - Chasing Pandora
Hailing from the Maltese island of Gozo, Chasing Pandora were first introduced to each other by Elton John’s former manager. The chemistry was instant between the folk/pop duo - Melissa Portelli sings writes the lyrics and sings vocals, while Keith Anthony composes and provides the backing. Described as a delicate, beautiful ballad, Running In Circles is the follow up to the singles from their debut album, which topped Maltese radio and CD charts. It's from their latest EP, released on 16th November.
