Wednesday 4th November - Question

Penny for penny, are you better off buying a copy of the Daily Mail for the Euromillions promotion this Saturday, or a more expensive Camelot ticket?

Wednesday 4th November - Answer

Penny for penny, are you better off buying a copy of the Daily Mail for the Euromillions promotion this Saturday, or a more expensive Camelot ticket?

A: I've been back in touch with the Daily Mail about this and they've confirmed that there are a lot of syndicate tickets in their promotion, as well as what they describe as "a lot" of individual tickets. They've given me a ballpark figure of "tens of thousands" of individual sets of numbers that they've bought for the syndicate tickets, but they wouldn't tell me the exact number, so it's impossible to work out the exact odds of winning by buying the Mail versus winning by buying a more expensive ticket from Camelot. What we can say with certainty is that with the chances of winning the jackpot at around one in 70 million, the difference in odds between the two different types of tickets is negligible. What we do know though, is that if you buy a ticket from Camelot, you'll be far less likely to share it with other people than you would with the Daily Mail promotion.
