Synopsis

In the third of Radio 1's Story of the Noughties, Fearne Cotton takes us back to the year 2002 - the music, the people, the events.

2002 was the year that the TV series The Office took off, moving from BBC Two to BBC One for its second series and launching the career of one Ricky Gervais. Fearne meets up with Ricky to discuss the highs and lows of a decade that has seen him go from a paper factory in Slough to hanging out with Ben Stiller in Hollywood.

In this programme Fearne also catches up with The Cheeky Girls and explores our fascination with music reality TV shows like Xfactor, Pop Idol and Popstars:The Rivals. Plus we hear about the musical landmarks that defined the year…do you remember electroclash, bootlegs and mash-ups? Erol Alkan, Casey from Fischerspooner and Calvin Harris are here to remind you about the music that was big at the time.
And James King returns with his round-up of 2002 in film, featuring Ali G, Bourne Identity, Spiderman and the rise of one of the UK's hottest female exports Keira Knightley.

Packed full of music, but featuring the following main tracks…

Dy-na-mi-tee - Ms Dynamite
Dreaming of You - The Coral
Freak Like Me - Sugababes
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips
