The British Museum’s latest autumn show Moctezuma: Aztec Ruler explores Aztec civilisation through the divine, military and political role of the last elected ruler, Moctezuma II who reigned from AD 1502–1520. On display are imposing stone sculptures and rare gold and turquoise objects, many of which will be seen for the first time in the UK.
The Graham Greene Festival celebrates the life and work of the author and playwright whose most famous works included Brighton Rock and Our Man In Havana. To mark Greene’s birthday a range of events are held in his home town of Berkhamsted Hertfordshire including film showings, writing workshops and various guest speakers like former correspondent for the BBC Kate Adie.
Wimbledon Bookfest encompasses all genres of fiction and non-fiction from political history and poetry to literary novels and books on sport. Visiting authors include Sadie Jones, Penny Vincenzi, Peter Blake and Max Hastings.
The Mascot Grand National offers a great chance to see mascots from all over the country compete in a highly entertaining 1 furlong dash over hurdles for charity. Held at Huntingdon Racecourse there’s always fierce competition, rivalry and the occasional scandal!
The Annual Erddig Apple Festival takes place this weekend in the beautiful gardens of Erddig Hall, Wrexham. It celebrates everything to do with the humble apple from apple pie to scrumpy cider.
