Bohuslav Martinu:The Symphonies October 2009 - May 2010

The BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Jirí Belohlávek perform the six symphonies of Bohuslav Martinu. 2009 marks the 50th year since the death of the great Czech composer, whose life began in a church tower in the village of Policka and ended in exile in Switzarland. The concerts include works at the heart of classical music including Strauss's Four Last Songs, Piano Concertos by Prokofiev and Schumann and Brahms's A German Requiem.
