Unstop all the corks, shuck oysters by the dozen
Cook a coq au vin with gusto unalloyed
Have a quick slurp of Chateau Joie de Vivre
Then have another for Keith Floyd
POEM: I “Love” The 80’s
One “Man and Baby” Blu-Tacked
To a million bedroom walls
“Frankie Says” on every t-shirt
“Loadsamoney” in the shiny shopping malls
Suit sleeves rolled up to the elbow
“Sex On The Beach” on a yacht
Now that’s what I call the 80’s
The decade that taste forgot
Big poodle hair, pink frosted lipstick
Shoulder-pads by Ralph Lauren
Puff-ball skirts, leg-warmers, pixie boots
(And that was just the men)
Material Girls and City Boys screaming
“Greed Is Good!”, “No Pain, No Gain!”
The devil’s dandruff up their noses
Jacuzzis fulla floozies ‘n champagne
Filofaxes, Wham!, Tiananmen Square
Band Aid, Belgrano, RoboCop
Deelyboppers, Glasnost, Smurfs
Perestroika, “Cheggers Plays Pop”
Kylie ‘n Jason, Torvill ‘n Dean
Oh such bliss to reminisce
Cheap TV pundit clip show heaven
And quite handy for a poem like this
Chas ‘n Di commemorative tea-towels
“Hi-De-Hi!” holiday camp
Thatcher’s iron handbag, Tebbit’s bike
A crushed and broken miner’s lamp
Tory government, dole queues, Afghan war
Spandau Ballet on tour again
Hang on – we’re Back To The Future with Tomorrow’s World
Here it comes - 2010
