DAVID SHEPHERD AND BLACK PRINCE
The artist David Shepherd is best known for his wildlife paintings and the charity he runs to highlight the plight of endangered species. Its perhaps less well known that he's played an important role in the preservation of Britain's railway heritage. In the sixties he frantically toured the country with his easel and paints to record the dying days of mainline steam. And it was the earnings from his wildlife work that enabled him to buy not one, but two steam locomotives and save them from the scrap heap. Those engines are both still going strong and this year David's 9F, which he named Black Prince, has been taking part in a number of events to celebrate its 50th birthday.
Up All Night's Howard Benson met up with David Shepherd to reminisce about his railway enthusiasm at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
