En route, she travels in a 1950s ice-cream van and spends time with the modern-day lumberjacks of Kielder Forest. Finally, she catches up with a couple who left the urban sprawl of Newcastle to settle in a remote moorland landscape.
Along the way, Ellie looks back on the best of the BBC's rural programmes from this beautiful part of the world.
