Synopsis
Colin Prior talks to people who have faced the elements. He meets Gordon Brown, who was caught in a thunderstorm in his kayak, aware that he could be hit by lightning at any moment.
Gordon Brown
Scared, vulnerable and isolated. That's how Gordon Brown felt the first time he was caught out at sea in a thunderstorm in his kayak, aware that he was the earth for a lightning bolt at any moment.
When you are at sea your relationship with the weather is a symbiotic one and, as Colin Prior finds out, it's experience and an understanding of the elements that decided whether the weather will become your best friend or your worst enemy.
Knoydart & Loch Hourn
Programme producer Dan Holland took this shot during the recording of this programme. He says; "It was about 6.30 pm and a beautiful evening, the oyster catchers were squawking and the water gently lapped against the rocks just a couple of feet beneath us. All three of us came away from here, having just spent time talking about the weather, realising that there are some times in Scotland when the weather just opens the landscape up for you like some kind of long lost treasure chest".
